If you’re familiar with our community, you probably know that we are pretty active. Celebrating Mass via EWTN, leading retreats, speaking at conferences and, of course, hearing Confessions are just a few of the apostolates that our friars engage in.

Yet, at the heart of all of these ministries, is our devotion to the Eucharist–one of the foundational pillars of our spirituality. It is precisely because the Eucharist is so central to our way of life that the monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament is embroidered on the front of our religious habit.

The friars begin each day with Holy Mass and then throughout the day pray the Liturgy of the Hours/Divine Office, which is an extension of the Eucharistic celebration. Also, each friar is required to pray a holy hour during the day as a part of their devotion to the Eucharist. For those of us present at EWTN studios, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed throughout working hours at the center of EWTN’s campus.

Mother Angelica had this to say about this aspect of our charism:

From the Eucharist we will draw from the fountain our strength, perseverance and inspiration. We will lead others back to Jesus, present in the Most Blessed Sacrament, for He alone can lead us to the Father.

It is for a good reason that the Church refers to the Eucharist as the “source and summit” of our faith. It is for Christ that we strive to wake up in the morning, to carry out our daily work and to embrace our vocation.

We hope that you’ll join us in praying for an even greater respect and love for Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. Perhaps you’re able to attend daily Mass or have an Adoration chapel nearby. These opportunities are wonderful gifts! And, each Sunday, we all have the chance to prepare our hearts to receive Him in the Eucharist. Bring Jesus your thanksgiving, your adoration, and your intentions. He is ready and waiting to bestow His grace upon your life!
