January has been an incredible month for the pro-life movement. Fr. Patrick, Br. Leo, Br. Matthew, and Br. John Therese most recently joined hundreds of thousands at the 44th annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. It was a historical day as Vice-President Mike Pence became the highest ranking US official to speak at the March for Life. He promised that he and President Donald Trump would, “embrace a culture of life in America.” Pope Francis offered his greeting to participants at the DC March in a papal telegram assuring them of his prayers and imparting his Apostolic Blessing upon all present.
Earlier in the week President Trump signed and executive order reinstating the Mexico City policy, banning all foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that receive federal funding to refrain from performing or promoting abortion services. The US House of Representatives also passed its first major pro-life bill of the new year to permanently ban federal abortion funding. The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act passed by a 238-183 vote. If the bill is passed in the Senate the President has signaled that he would sign the bill into law.
Fr. Mark traveled to the Walk for Life: West Coast in San Francisco, CA as a part of EWTN’s coverage of the growing event. Several friars also participated locally in Birmingham’s Walk for Life.
A recently released Marist poll “finds that heavy majorities of Americans believe abortion is morally wrong, and favor an array of mainstream restrictions on the practice.” Although much work lies ahead we know the tide is turning and as Vice-President Mike Pence declared, “life is winning.”
Thank God for everything! God bless everyone supporting life and love!
