IRONDALE, Ala. – Fathers John Paul, Matthew and Leonard begin new assignments on Monday August 6, 2018, Feast of the Transfiguration.

Six years ago Fr. John Paul became the manager of the EWTN Pilgrimage Department. He oversaw the coordinating and scheduling of group visits to the Network. The newly ordained Fr. Matthew will take John Paul’s responsibilities and manage the Pilgrimage Department at the Shine of the Blessed Sacrament. Fr. Leonard was

assigned as Employee Chaplain of the EWTN Alabama Facilities in August 2014. He provided spiritual direction, counsel, visited sick workers in their homes and at hospitals and celebrated Masses in the Network chapels. Fr. John Paul will assume Leonard’s responsibilities and also serve EWTN’s international studios and offices.

Fr. Leonard will be pursuing another graduate degree in Communications Management via online classes through the University of Southern California.

Pray for our friars as they transition into their new assignments. God bless them.

  1. Does that mean we won’t be seeing Father Leonard celebrating Mass on EWTN being he his pursuing another degree?

      1. Fr. Leonard is doing well. He is currently working behind the scenes at the friary completing an online masters degree in communications from the University of Southern California.

        1. He has always been my favorite homilist; so cheerful.and beautiful smile. Fr. Anthony, GOD bless you and grant you perseverance to the very end.

    1. Fr. Leonard was in my dreams last night so went online to see what he was doing. I felt he needed prayers. Please reply to my email listed below.

    2. Dear Father Leonard Mary,
Thank you for your uplifting sermon on Thursday, June 5. God bless you on your new assignment and thank you and all your brother priests at EWTN.
      Respectfully,

    3. I watched Father Leonard Mary say Mass (8\2\20} . He looked tired. I hope he is well. ETWN daily mass and the Holy Rosary is helping me cope With my fear of the virus and the unknown. Please stay safe and well Father LeonRd Mary.

    4. Father Leonard will be missed very much. His sermons are spot on. I wish him many blessings in his new assignment. I love all the fathers. I’ve learned so much from them at EWTN. Thank you mother Angelica for your vision.

  2. Love all of you! Miss our days when back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s we went up there every 1st Saturday weekends for Retreats (Miracle of the Rosary Mission) I still feel our connection from the Bayou’s of Louisiana as being close!!! That spiritual jump start of the soul was priceless!!!! Love and prayers to you all, always!!! Good Luck Fathers. Say a special Hello to our own Br. Leo! You will always hold a special place in our hearts!!! God bless!

  3. I hope you all know how very important you are to us viewers – may God bless you in your new assignments, and may He bless our Holy Roman Catholic Church everywhere in all places. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

  4. Being an elderly home bound, you have NO idea how much my daily inspiration is provided by, YOU, the people I LOVE !!!!! 💖💖🙏🙏🙏 I thank God daily for each of you. I could name each by name but there is no need because I love you all equally. I do throughly enjoy Fathers Anthony and John Paul’s homily. They add a little humor that I appreciate. I’m known for my warped humor, (a gift from God) 😊 keeps a person from nodding off during the sermon. 👼
God keep you all in His hands, especially now during Satan”s efforts to destroy our faith and credibility. NOT in this household. NEVER!!!! Nor at EWTN, I forbid it !!!!
Love, prayers and blessings from an old woman who loves you ALL.
    In Jesus’ name. Amen

    1. I too find inspiration in the daily masses and wonderful homilies by the priests and friars of EWTN, but I greatly miss Father Anthony. It’s been nearly 2 months since he celebrated mass and am very concerned for his health and well-being, especially since his twin sister’s passing. PLEASE let us know if he is OK and when we will see him again. Love, prayers and blessings to ALL.🙏🙏🙏

      1. What happened to Father Anthony? Is he ok? We miss his wonderful humor and the wisdom of his homilies.

      2. This is such a great blessing! However, we all miss Fr. Anthony Mary! The comments in response highlight this. Please let us know specifically what has happened to him! Candor is always important, especially in today’s environment. Is there a place we may see him? If we come to confessions in Irondale, May we see him?

        1. I feel such relief about FR. Anthony. Thank you for your reply. I now understand why I have not been seeing him at Mass. God Bless you and heal you. I pray for for all of the Friars and for EWTN. You are doing a wonderful job for Jesus and his flock.

          1. I miss Fr. Anthony. I’m worried about him, is he alright? I keep him in Prayer.

      3. Thank you for the thoughtful concern you have expressed for Father Anthony Mary. Father has a chronic, non life threatening health condition that results in major bouts of fatigue forcing him to cut back on his normal schedule. Although he is largely unable to assist at our early morning, televised Mass he remains quite active midday, regularly offering Noon Mass for the EWTN employees, and hearing confessions. Father misses being with our EWTN family at the broadcast Mass but is grateful for your care and for your prayers. He sends his love to all of you.

        1. At last a credible reply, however sad its message. Love and prayers go to all the priests and religious and lay staff of EWTN! But why not televise Fr. Anthony’s Noon Mass at least one day a week on a regular basis so we could record it if not able to watch live?

        2. Deepest gratitude for the update on Father Anthony Mary. He is loved & missed beyond measure! His homilies always resonate with me. May God be with Father Anthony & all of the EWTN family. <3

        3. Sure he doesn’t have Lyme Disease? Have heard over and over people who have fatigue really have Lyme Disease and not realize it!

        4. I am so happy to hear something about Fr. Anthony Mary. I miss him, his charismatically educative sermons which I never wanted to miss. It’s been a while not seeing him and thinking he might be on a new assignment but could not stop thinking about why he is not offering the EWTN masses any more. Thank you for letting us know what is happening, especially his ability to offer the afternoon masses dor the EWTN employees. I keep all of you in my prayerand especially Fr. Anthony Mary. Let him know I miss him and he is in my prayers. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!!

    2. What a beautiful reply Betty! I too miss Fr Anthony and Fr John Paul. Their unique way of imparting God’s word is a very uplifting part of the day🙏🏼 It has been such a blessing to watch these two men transition their lives in the Lord. God’s continued blessings on the priests of EWTN.

    3. I am happy that EWTN does right by you. It does for me. I care for a sick elderly household. We are privileged, being cared for by fine young men. Blessing to ye. +KCE

God Bless you all and thank you for all that you do. I hope you all receive your 3 crowns of glory.

      1. I too am relieved to hear that he is still there among you. I have felt compelled to pray for him and feared the worst. I too have such a problem. the heart and the mind want to do so much but the body says no,,.and at the most inconvenient time but I have learned it is a wonderful time to draw closer to Jesus. I will continue to pray for all of you and will no longer fear that something tragic has happened to Father Anthony. I will continue to watch him on you tube as the Holy Spirit uses many of those homilies to teach me His ways.

    2. I really miss FR Mary Anthony I have followed him since he was a young novice ‘

      Where is he now?

Oh how can I send an E-Mail to FR Mary Joseph?

      God Bless!

  5. MFVA Friars: I think you are missing something in your responses on folks missing Fr Anthony (as do I). We feel an attachment to him, so your response about “duties which preclude” seems cold and uncaring of the love people have for this superb homilist. Respecting his privacy, perhaps a more personal response can be provided, preferably by Fr Anthony himself. Thank you.

    2. Point made very well and hope well taken by EWTN as well and FOLLOWED THROUGH !!! … Maureen …. surely (?? hopefully) Rev. Anthony could post something HIMSELF to us all, his immense fan base and admirers.

    3. Yes! It is Cruel to have only such a curt response about Father Anthony…It would indeed be nice if you would televise some of his Noon Masses…Also it seems like he could assist at some of the regular Masses–especially do a weekly Homily…

  6. I too miss Father Anthony Mary. His gentle manner, his explanation of the Gospel. I pray that he is one day soon able to return to lead his television followers. You do not have to give your standard response to this email. I just wanted Father Anthony to know that he is loved and missed. I will pray for you Father Anthony, that you are in health and that you are doing work that is satisfying. Also know there are many waiting your return into our living rooms and into our hearts. With love and respect, Donna.

    1. I too am looking to find out where Father Anthony is. My sister who is handicapped first noticed him missing. I hope all is well. We miss him as we would each of the Friars if they suddenly went AWOL to their flock. God Bless you all.

    2. I agree with Maureen and Donna and miss Father Anthony very much. This will have an impact
on my giving to the Friars and the network.

    3. I also want to leave a message of caring for Fr. Anthony Mary. I offered my attendance at Mass for him yesterday as I would for anyone if I noticed his or her presence was missing for a while without explanation. I respect his privacy, as I trust in time and faithful prayer.

  7. I thought I was the only one who noticed Fr. Anthony has not celebrated Mass on EWTN TV since the new abuse accusations. Besides Fr. Joseph, he is definitely favorite, as others have said, homilist. God be with him!!

      1. Thank u so much for the update. I kept commenting and searching om youtube for Fr Anthony, was really worried. Hope he gets well soon and we see him on tv again.

  10. I also miss having Fr. Anthony on the Daily Mass. His ability to make Holy Scripture relevant to today is a pure blessing. Please consider an arrangement that will allow him to celebrate the televised Mass. Why does EWTN always “hide” the best priests? The same thing happened with the late Fr. Angelus, unfortunately.

  11. Father Anthony is the best homilist I’ve watched on EWTN Personable with keen insights into the scriptures and their applications for daily living and spiritual growth. He excels at evangelizing over the airwaves.

I also enjoy getting their news letters and reading them and puthing them in my scrapbook
        May God bless you all

  12. Greetings, I was trying to find out regarding Dear Fr Anthony Mary’s whereabouts for my husband who misses him very much and was understandably worried. I do understand with new his new duties he is unable to be the celebrant at 7am Mass , does this new rule also apply to The Sunday Mass televised?

  13. I have been wondering for weeks where my favorite homilist, Father Anthony, was. I am relieved through my Internet research to hear that he is OK, but would love for him to return to the broadcast mass. He is missed. God bless us all

  14. I totally agree with Maureen. We have been listening to Fr. Anthony for many years and this behavior is hurtful. One feels cheated somehow. We do wish him well. We are two viewers who have followed him through many relocations, multiple states and now a different country. EWTN has been a rock for us. He was a big piece of this rock. As was Father Angelus M. Shaughnessy, who also disappeared without a goodbye.

  17. There must be a button you push to ptoduce the standard answer for inquiries about Fr. Anthony Mary. It raises one’s suspicion of why we dont see him anymore. Too bad.

  18. I miss you Fr. Anthony. You are a wonderful homilist and priest. You are one of the main reasons why I am back in the Church full-time. I hope you are well. Please come back. I miss hearing Gods message from you. May God bless you always.

  19. The people who watch EWTN MASS to see Fr Anthony May change channels because they have an attachment to Fr Anthony. My personal feelings also. At least have him say mass once a month. PLEASE

  20. Everyone misses Fr Anthony Mary , most specially my friend who retired last year, who watches EWTN, now for hours & hours. BUT, we , viewers, SHOULD PRAY to the Holy Trinity, more so, to the HOLY SPIRIT, that these FRIARS, & the PRIESTS all around the world, be protected ” from being stolen”, from Jesus Christ. I hope you “understand”, what I mean. I BEG to GOD, each morning or each night before I go to sleep, to “keep all the EWTN Friars” be GUIDED by the Holy Spirit, because they have that responsibility to the “ETERNAL Word”: the WORD made flesh. I also PRAY for the CPM PRIESTS; the Capuchins; our own Parish Friars; then the rest of ALL the Religious, all over the world.

  21. I am anxiously awaiting the return of Fr. Anthony. I miss his homilies so very much. I pray he is well and will return to us very soon. I can’t imagine a duty that would prevent him from sharing his kind and gentle thoughts with us. Please bring him back to our homes.

    1. I agree we need him back and will pray that he comes back soon. I know he has a birthday some
time in Dec. so Happy Birthday and many more. May God bless you and make you well.

  22. We are missing Fr. Anthony and his homilies. We hope he is in good health and not in any sort of troubling situations. Prayers his way from Long Island, New York!

  23. Ft. Anthony friendly understanding of the human and Christian situation during mass reassures me all is well. If over exposure is affecting him, I understand his withdrawal from broadcast mass. We just miss him. I use this opportunity to thank all you wonderful loving priests and religious for mentoring me,on my spiritual journey.

  25. I miss Fr. Anthony, too, and long for his return to the televised Mass. I’m elderly and homebound and miss his uplifting, inspiring, and warm homilies. God be with him and all the wonderful friars. Love to all of them.

  26. WE NISS FATHER ANTHONY AS WELL, BUT WE ALSO SUSPECT SOME POLITICS INVOLVED HERE .

IS HE BEING PUNISHED IN ANYWAY

    1. No, Father has been dealing with health issues. He remains quite active midday, regularly offering Noon Mass for the EWTN employees, and hearing confessions.

  27. I miss Father Anthony Mary very much too. I love his homilies. I connect with him very much and I always wait to see if he will be at the Mass. May the Lord bless you and keep you Father Anthony may his face shine upon you. We all love you.💖 your EWTN bros and sisters in Christ. God’s love and Peace.

  28. We missed Fr. Anthony Mary we are from Cebu… We like the way he deliver his homilies. He has a sense of humor. We missed him in EWTN daily masses. Hope he is okay. God bless you Fr. Anthony. Hope to see you soon in EWTN daily masses. We missed you.

  29. Father Anthony is deeply missed! Along with Father Joseph and Father John Paul, his presence at the televised Mass graced my day with joy! The very best homilists should be assigned to the televised Mass. This is a powerful instrument for evangelization. I pray for the health and well being of this much-loved priest.

  30. Thank you for an update on Fr Anthony Mary. We have missed his homilies and Holy Mass on EWTN. We have been keeping him in our prayers and hope all is well with the rest of the Friars. We continue to support EWTN and thank God for all the Franciscan missionaries. God bless you all. Please extend our warmest regards and thoughts of prayers for Fr Anthony Mary.

  31. We also missed Fr. Anthony Mary and his inspirational Homilies! Praying for the father and all the Priests and Brothers at EWTN!

  32. The tone of some of these inquiries about Father Anthony Mary certainly reflects the level of pain in our Church today. Prayers for the holiness of all clergy and religious, especially those who serve God despite chronic illness and in the face of the storms of scandal and suspicion. And a word of praise if I may for Father Paschal Mary. His humility in the ambo combines with at times lyrical use of language in his homilies to deeply bless and inspire me.

  33. I have read each entry of this incredibly long thread and I have to say I am not comforted much by the MVFA reply which is inserted after many of the comments. My wife and I watch daily mass almost every day. At the entrance I invariably find myself wishing I might see Father Anthony Mary come up the aisle. We very much miss his wonderful homilies.

    1. We’re sorry that you are not satisfied by our reply. We hope you understand the difficulty in responding individually to each of the inquiries we receive. Father has been struggling with some health issues but would like the details to remain private. Thank you and God bless!

  34. I would like to add my name to those who appreciate the friars who bring us the Mass, which is most important, every day, but who also miss Fr. Anthony’s personality and insights. Perhaps we can all offer up our sorrow at missing him as he must be offering up his health issues and pray for his return to full health. Fr. Anthony, we are praying for you and the other friars.

  35. I miss Fr. Anthony saying mass and his homilies. Love all of you..thanks for all you do. EWTN is my go to station. What a blessing!

  36. My mom truly misses Father Anthony maybe father could do noon sermon but not the whole mass he is miss by church God Bless him and our CHURCH

  37. I am so very sorry that Father Anthony is having health issues but I am glad that I finally know why he has not been having the morning mass. He is a favorite of mine and my husband. I will pray for his return to good health and that one day soon he will walk down the aisle at the morning mass. I will be looking forward to that day as I know many other viewers will also. God bless Father Anthony and everyone at EWTN. My day doesn’t start until I have watch the mass on EWTN.

  38. Oh, dear! I was wondering what had happened and where was Fr. Anthony and from the comments – and response – it is evident that he is being missed by many viewers. May I suggest that he be given a ‘natural, organic diet’. There are many reasons for this but mainly I suggest this because it has helped others with allergies and other ailments such as diabetes. It may be Fr. Anthony and the other priests are not getting a healthy nutrition – and their health is of outmost importance for so many. Please do look into this – an organic foods may just be what Fr. Anthony will benefit greatly from. Prayers for all EWTN priests – am sure Mother Angelica is watching.

  39. I really miss Fr. Anthony Mary and love his homilies. He made me feel so good about the word. His smile and his happy eyes made his homilies priceless. Fr. Anthony Mary I would like to see you back on TV but you need to take care of yourself. You are one of the best priest at EWTN. May God bless and protect you. Along with others, may we see you soon on TV. Your homilies are truly missed. God Bless You and keep you safe. I love you Fr. Anthony Mary. Get well soon and take care.

  40. Hope to see Father Anthony back soon. He is very much loved and missed. If he is sick why aren’t the other priests praying the mass mention him and include him in the intentions?

  41. I started watching The Mass on EWTN about 2 years ago. I loved both Father Anthony and Father Leonard’s Mass and homilies. They were there all the time. I was saddened to realize They were no longer having Mass and never came back after a vacation. My rationalizing at the time. Thinking of both today and decided to find info on the pc. Get well Father Anthony and can’t wait for both of your return.to EWTN.

  42. I just hope thatyou can televized F. snthony Mary’s affternoon mass so we can still see n hear hiswonderful homilies! I really miss his wit n humor! Ma the Lord give back his strength n completely heal him!

  43. Father Anthony is my favorite EWTN priest-he is smart, delivers great inspirational homilies that I listen attentively and take to heart all that he said. I love his smile, his sense of humor and most of all his distinctive laugh. The passing of his twin sister may take an effect on Father Anthony’s well-being and as a result, may affect him emotionally and physically. Yes, I can relate to that, my sister BettyLou and I are grew up like twin sister for we are 10 months apart. She died August 1973, and up to this time (2019) I still cry hard and feel so emotional when I think of her, because I miss her so much, but all I can do is PRAY and ask the Blessed Mother to make me understand my sorrows and to accept God’s will. I’m feel emotional and feel for Father Anthony as i write this reply. I wanted Father Anthony to know that I will remember him in my nightly Rosary with Mother Angelica as well as say the Nine days Novena to Saint for Father Anthony. Hoping that one day, he will pop up on the EWTN TV Mass. God Bless Father Anthony and to us who love him so dearly.

  44. last night I had a dream that I was going around a building asking “where is Fr. Anthony, where is Fr. Anthony”. I was tired when I woke up. Looked up about him on the internet. So Sorry he’s so sick. Maybe he can just do a homily once in a while. Just to let him know he is so missed

  45. What I wouldn’t give to hear just ONE of father Anthony’s homilies, JUST ONE!!Also, thanks to God for the inspiring and uplifting homily given by Father Joseph on today’s mass. I normally find him a bit boring. But he was spot on today and I am sure that his homily today brought many comfort and renewed hope. Thanks father Joseph for allowing God to use you as His instrument of hope!!

  46. Today 5/6/2020, with almost all closed in NY State, I started a letter to Fr. John Paul Mary, a I had a computer problem.
So I went on line to view EWTN, and again was awestruck by Fr John Paul with his road trip blessing the sick in hospitals through out Al,

  47. my other half and I have been watching the mass eveyday for about a month now.We thank you ,for the wonderful masses.Fathers Joseph,John Paul,Mark ,Mitch, and my personal favorite Leonard, MAY GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU AND MAY GOD WATCH OVER YOU ALL DURING THIS VIRUS,MAY HE WATCH OVER YOU ALWAYS. THANK YOU AGAIN for making the mass a connection with the LORD.

  48. I miss Fr. Leonard on The Daily Mass- I know that his father passed away and he will miss him alot
.Fr. Leonard, I would like to see you again on the Daily Mass

I was looking at Fr. Joseph’s video tribute about his father who had passed away
.I watched a showoman called “The Dead Files” and the client’s tell and learn much about their ancestors on what lives they lived
.This is something that I like to learn about and I write down what their family history was like and what I have learned from them
.I don’t know why the Travel Channel calls the show “The Dead Files”I would say another name for it should be “The History Files”
In school I got asked to do a family tree in the probably in the fifth grade and I got 100% on it
.When I watch other shows on historic homes and the families that lived, stayed, and died there,I take pictures of theach family and the home that they lived in and find out what has happened to them from either a family member or a historian
.This is something that enjoy doing

  49. We have a new Franciscan priest in our parish. From what I understand he is from a active city such as Chicago. I also understand that some priests are broadening their expression of the Mass through their own ways. Singing during most of the Mass (and the congregation is to follow with the priest). Using their phone to read parts of the Mass. There is no time for reflection, private prayer, reverence. It is like an impromptu “Sing along with Mitch.” I love attending this church. I have come to know the parishioners. It is the church I grew up in. But I cannot handle this “New Age” priest. Am I wrong to feel this way?
