Saint Francis has inspired countless men and woman to discern vocations to the priesthood and religious life. His miraculous vision in the Church of San Damiano and his subsequent founding of the Franciscans has been a continual source of renewal and “rebuilding” of the Catholic Church for almost 800 years.
In his lifetime, Saint Francis wrote a prayer for those discerning a vocation to the religious life. It is short and simple (life the little friar himself) but it cuts to the very heart of discernment.
Saint Francis’ Vocation Prayer:
Most High, Glorious God, enlighten the darkness of our minds. Give us a right faith, a firm hope and a perfect charity, so that we may always and in all things act according to Your Holy Will. Amen.
